ARE YOU WEANED?

What is it like for an adult to be weaned by the Lord? David tells us in the three verses of      Psalm 131.

1 My heart is not proud, LORD,
my eyes are not haughty;
I do not concern myself with great matters
or things too wonderful for me.

2 But I have calmed and quieted myself,
I am like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child I am content.

3 Israel, put your hope in the LORD
both now and forevermore.

How do we get there, and become weaned? Well, the mother must first wean the child before the child can still and quiet itself. Before that training is completed the little one frets for what it wants. The wise mother not only meets the baby’s need but soon begins the weaning process.

How faithful is our Heavenly Parent to withhold at times. Spiritual character requires years of training. God is faithful. He wants to enable us to say with the Psalmist, “My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty.” Verse 1. Then verse 2 pictures the child no longer fretting for what it wants but resting in a loving relationship of trust.

Reader, whatever your need, “put your hope in the Lord both now and forevermore.” Verse 3.
