Our church was experiencing a time of spiritual renewal, or revival. I asked the men in one of their meetings to put in writing their response to the question, “What is going on in our church these days in the way of change.” Here are answers received:
- We are becoming more disciplined in our walk with God.
- Emphasis on family with the man taking leadership responsibilities.
- Our roots are being driven deeper.
- Challenge to confront sin in our own lives.
- Preaching of the gospel and reformation doctrines in power.
- New focus on making relationships right.
- Claiming the power of God.
- The pure teaching of God’s Word.
- Focus on the Holy Spirit – who he is and what he does.
- Prayer.
- “Though I have been here a long time, God’s Word is speaking to us as never before.”
- A new season of pruning and self-evaluation in individual lives.
- Sunday night and Wednesday services.
- Many places “offer comfort and the meeting of needs but something deeper is happening here.”
- Some are yet holding back taking inventory and considering what God is calling them to be and do.
- A period of inward development.
- Deliberate and prayerful caution in steps of progress.
- Emphasis on younger men as leaders.
- New focus on men as leaders in home and church.
- Getting back to basics of Scripture.
- The centrality of the church rather than various programs and departments.
- Changing from a worldly view to a spiritual view and from self-gratification to God’s will.
- Christ is being held up along with the sufficiency of the blood of the cross.
- An increased discernment in distinguishing good things from the best things.
