CHURCHES NEED THEIR SHUTINS

Those infirm and shut-in not only need us, but we need them! When neglected by the church, their spiritual lives go into the drought of uselessness. This but increases their affliction, and their prayer potential is often lost to our Lord’s work. We are directed by God to visit those in affliction. (See James 1:27; Matthew 25:36) An effort ought to be made to harness many of these in regular prayer for their church and missionaries. Visitors ought to go to them, sharing personally from the Bible and seeking to quicken them into regular ministry to the full extent of their capacity. They should receive regular prayer requests by mail, telephone, and a monthly tape of two messages or services from the church. Quarterly sharing the Lord’s table in the home by several members should be arranged for.

It cannot be over-emphasized: We need them.
