BREAKING DEPENDENCY ON COUNSELING BY BENEFITS OF CHURCH LIFE

Helping the habitually defeated and discouraged is a ministry every church should assume. Take such needy ones seriously but do not be darkened yourself with their discouragement. Cleanse yourself.

“Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.” Galatians 6:1

Steps:

  1. Counsel toward a point of showdown – not toward establishing dependence as a way of life.
  2. Teach them how to resist, stand.
  3. Set up a prayer cell (3-5 persons) around each.
    • Meet for prayer, not for therapy or rehashing.
    • Keep God-centered, not given to introspection.
    • Keep united in prayer, claiming God’s help.
