So many Christians are limping through life because they have no clear understanding of God’s grace. God is gracious.
Commonly, what grace is thought to be is no more than a scheme guaranteeing forgiveness as we continue in sin. No! Grace is God’s plan to free us from sin.
“For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.” Romans 6:14
Understanding grace brings two wonderful results into our lives. First, we at last are justified, forgiven by God on the basis of Christ’s death in our stead. This release from all our record of sin prepares us to receive the second gracious help: We are enabled by the Holy Spirit to break with our old attitudes and ways.
Look again at Romans 6:14. Sin is said to have lost its mastery over us – because of what? The answer is plainly put in few words: “because you are not under the law, but under grace.”
If we are left languishing under the weight of the law’s requirements (do this, do that, and woe to you if you at all fail!) how miserable our lot if all depends on us, unaided by God.
But, thank God, “I can do everything through Him (Christ) who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13
As enlightened believers cease their futile struggles with evil dispositions and lusts, and begin a new life with the Holy Spirit’s help, careful study of Scripture, and more real prayer (praise and thanksgiving, confession of sin, claiming of newly discovered truths and promises in God’s Word) – things will change! Amen!
