NOT “ASCARED”

The child reassures his parent, “I’m not ‘ascared.'” That is the very attitude missing today. Ours is a generation of shook-up Christians.

A few glances at the daily news is enough to swamp anyone’s faith. The loud noise of evil and the very filth of it all seems impossible to shrug off. It appears powerful, imposing, and the voice and stride of the church so very feeble.  Instead of being “strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might” (Ephesians 6:10), it is increasingly easy to be overcome with the devil’s roaring, I Peter 5:8.

Many shields are drooping in the mud of plain discouragement; whereas, God instructs, “In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one,” Ephesians 6:16.

“Without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you,” advises the Apostle Paul in Philippians 1:28. Then he assures us that this very stance of confidence will be to the threatening enemy “an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.”

Outsmarted? Perhaps. Outnumbered? Undoubtedly. However, ONE + GOD is still a majority!

Like pounding the hardened ground with a dull hoe, our Christian service may seem of little account. But let us recall our great Secret Weapon – the power of the Holy Spirit. How quickly a gracious shower softens the resisting soil.

O God, give us courage to expect and work for a down-pour!
