WHAT DOES LAUGHTER SHOW?

“Even in laughter the heart may ache,” Proverbs 14:13.

Often laughter masks the deeper feelings of one’s heart.  If unguarded, we tend to laugh out what is inside.

Sometimes when, and at what, and how long, and how loud one laughs tells much about the laugher.

The nervous twitter of a restrained person might be a plea for help.  The ready, free laughter might identify one who wants notice as he or she serves as a “punctuator.”

Some seem to be functioning, in their laughter, in a kind of worshipful submission to the occasion in order to be noticed.

The laughter of even close friends is so often not heard.  May God help us all to seek His approval and extend ourselves in service to Him.
