WHAT THIS COUNTRY NEEDS IS…

The wide-spread campaigning to which we have all been subjected recently highlights the ills of our country, while promising the final cure at the ballot box.  But two decades of mounting national and international problems seem to make these solutions farther from reach every year.  It is easy for Christians to become needlessly frustrated in all of this.

While we certainly need to pray and labor that our country will be brought back to the God of her forefathers, we need also to recognize that even in God’s chosen nation, it was the faithful remnant that spared the nation from the wrath of God.  Indeed, we ought to praise God that for the elect’s sake He is now reserving His judgment upon the idolatry, the iniquity, and the infidelity of this nation.

If we who are called by His name will humble outselves we need not despair.  The final answer to our country’s problems is not in the public voting booth, but in the Christian’s prayer closet.  “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people —  for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”  I Timothy 2:1-2

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”  II Chronicles 7:14
